Mineral Makeup for Ethnic Women
For years, it seemed that the cosmetics industry had chosen to ignore women of color. Ethnic women often had trouble finding the right foundation, and achieving the right color usually meant buying two or three different shades and mixing them at home. The pigments that were available were often unflattering to the wide spectrum of ethnic skin tones. Beyond difficulties in putting together the right look, conventional cosmetics, with their many chemical ingredients, often led to a worsening of the particular skin problems faced by ethnic women.
Ethnic women truly are women of color. African-America, Hispanic and Asian women define a complete spectrum of skin tones and shades. In addition, ethnic women also face the challenges of several complex skin problems. African-American women tend to have sensitive, oily skin that often scars easily. Asian women must be careful to avoid cosmetic preservatives and fragrances due to their higher sensitivity to irritation. Asian skin also tends to have more difficulty with acne. Hispanic women (especially when they are pregnant) are at greater risk for melasma (hyper-pigmentation, or dark spots) triggered by exposure to the sun. And for all women of color, even temporary skin problems may leave hyper-pigmentation behind.
Mineral makeup has proven to be an ideal solution for women of color. Most mineral makeup brands provide a wide range of foundation colors that work well with ethnic skin tones. Ethnic women have increased their presence in the market and mineral makeup suppliers have increased their product line accordingly. In addition, a few mineral makeup companies have been started that specifically cater to women of color.
The natural, pure quality of mineral makeup ingredients are particularly well-suited to the needs of ethnic women. Mineral makeup is non-comodogenic (it doesn’t clog pores), which is beneficial for all women. But this property of mineral makeup is especially welcome news for Asian women, who typically have more pore-related challenges.
Titanium dioxide, which is present in most mineral makeup formulations, is recognized as one of the most effective sun screens available (however they do not offer a specific SPF). This will provide Hispanic women with some protection against the dangers of melasma. African-American women will especially benefit from the oil-absorbing, anti-inflammatory properties of mineral makeup. The superior coverage offered by mineral makeup will allow women of color to lessen the visibility of any areas of hyper-pigmentation.
In addition to the benefits and personalization options of mineral makeup foundations, mineral eye makeup is especially well-suited to ethnic women. The deep, vibrant colors that can be achieved with mineral eye makeup are quite flattering to ethnic skin tones.
After decades of limited options, ethnic women are now able to access a wide array of mineral makeup options. Mineral makeup for ethnic women provides the ability to match colors for a flawless appearance, and its pure mineral ingredients provide healing and comfort for even the most problematic skin.
